Bay Area Cheryl Sindell’s top ten list for releasing excess weight for good began with:
- Tools to use when life gives you lemons or too many fat cells (1-3)
- Top ten tools to release excess weight (4-6)
Continuing on…
7. Cheryl suggests closing your eyes occasonally while eating so you can taste, really taste each bite.
You’ll feel satisfied and eat less that way!
8. Before eating, make sure four hours have passed since the previous meal.
Cheryl says, when releasing excess weight it’s important to fully digest a meal before eating again. Snacking or “grazing” throughout the day decreases your appetite, lowers your digestive fire and promotes “emotional eating” making weight loss slower and sometimes more difficult.
9. Do your favorite form of exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
Stay active, walk whenever possible, take the steps… but don’t overdo it. According to Cheryl and the principles of Ayurveda, when our body starts to sweat we’re doing too much. Do whatever form of exercise you enjoy most and continue doing it and you’ll reach your weight-loss goals.
10. Enjoy Kitchari at least once a day.
Cheryl’s favorite tool to encourage weight loss and balance the body is to enjoy a delicious dish called Kitchari at least once a day. Kitchari is the perfect balance between protein, carbohydrates and oils. And in addition to promoting weight loss, Kitchari eliminates toxins, rests the gastrointestinal tract, cleans out old impurities and promotes peace, calm and balance.
Kitchari (for two)
[Cheryl has these ingredients in her store.]
Separately rinse ½ Cup white Basmati Rice and ½ Cup yellow Mung Daal
Bring 8 Cups of filtered water to a boil in one stainless steel pot and add the rice and Mung Daal. Add pinch of rock salt and lower the flame.
Simmer Rice and Beans together, skimming off foam that rises to the top. Keep an eye on the liquid situation. If you need to, add more water to keep the bottom from burning (this usually means you have the heat too high).
Kitchari can be eaten as is (with the spice mixture below). Or at this point, add 3 organic veggies from the following list, and then add the mixture.
1/4 Cup Carrots
¼ Cup Sweet Potato,
¼ Cup Zucchini
¼ Cup Asparagus
¼ Cup Kale
¼ Cup Chard
¼ Cup Snow peas or Snap Peas
(Spice Mixture)
Heat 1-1/2 T. of Ghee in a tiny stainless steal pot or frying pan. Add 2 green cardamom pods (cracked open) 4 peppercorns, 1 clove, 15 cumin seeds, 15 fennel seeds, add dash tumeric. When ghee sizzles, seeds have popped Rce, Beans and veggies are well-cooked, mix everything together, add some freshly chopped Cilantro (if you like) serve, give thanks to the food and yummm!
